A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF EACH OF OUR SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
For more info or to sign up for any of the following activities, see the sign-up sheets
at the General Meeting or contact the Activity Coordinator(s)
listed below using the contact info in our Club directory or newsletter.
Click on Calendar to see the latest meeting plans.

A Casual Gathering: Meet other Cary Newcomers and develop wonderful new friendships as you enjoy savory appetizers and yummy desserts.  Each guest or couple brings an appetizer or dessert that serves 8 or more.  Also BYOB.  Your host and hostess are looking forward to welcoming you to their home for an enjoyable evening.  Gatherings are held monthly on the 3rd Friday.
(Activity Coordinators: Ray and Barbara P)

Baubles, Bangles, & Beads
: This group is for those interested in creating jewelry.  From a simple strand to a fashion statement, learn to make the jewelry you love.  Participants share tools and the cost of simple findings and stringing wire.  Projects vary each month.  Meetings are monthly on the 4th Thursday.
(Activity Coordinator: Sandy B)

Beginning Bridge: Haven’t played bridge in 40 years?  Have never played but would like to learn?  Need to brush up on modern bidding and play?  Then this group is for you, whether you want to play social bridge or duplicate. Using the Pat Harrington series of lessons, we’ll start at the very beginning (how many suits are there, which are the majors and which are the minors, how many points in a deck?) and work our way forwards.  These lessons combine instruction with play of the hand, so you’ll get a chance to put into practice what you’ve learned that day.

Once we know how many people would like to participate, we’ll work out the
details of how often we’ll meet and where.  There will be a very small fee to pay for reproducing lesson hand-outs.
(Activity Coordinator: Brenda R)

Book Club
: This group is for those who love to read.  Several daytime and evening book club groups meet in members' homes.  Dates and times vary.  Space is available in some groups; other groups are forming.
(Activity Coordinator: Elaine D)

Breakfast Club: This group of singles and couples meets at a different breakfast spot each month.  Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month.
(Activity Coordinator: Emalyne C)

Brunch and a Movie
: Feel like taking in a movie after meeting with friends?  Each month, we dine at a different local restaurant then go to a local movie theater to watch the movie of our choosing with other newcomers. We usually meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month.
(Activity Coordinators: Phyllis M and Darlene F)

Bunco: Join us monthly for this fun and easy game, and maybe a little profit.  Meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM in members' homes.  Light snacks provided by the host or hostess.  Looking for regular members and subs.
(Activity Coordinators: Mary Kay G and Nena S)

Chat-A-Wyle:
All new and prospective members are invited to learn more about CNC in a small-group setting by attending this activity.  We usually meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 10:00am until Noon.
(Activity Coordinator: Lucinda B)

Coffee Break:  Missing that morning chat with a friend? Here is your chance to meet up with some new friends over a cup of coffee or other morning brew.  Attendees try some of the area's wide variety of coffee shops where they'll have the opportunity to sit and converse before moving on to the day's activities.  Meetings are on the 3rd Monday of the month.
(Activity Coordinator: Tammie Z)

Culinary Enthusiasts: Share your culinary enthusiasm and learn from each other and area merchants.  This group usually meets on the 2nd Monday of each month but the date may change based on the needs of the business hosting our event.
(Activity Coordinator: Linda P)

Euchre: Euchre is a fun and fast card game played in groups of 4 people in 2 partnerships using a deck of 24 cards.  Euchre players meet the first Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm and the third Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm.  Contact the Coordinator if interested in playing, or learning to play.  New people are always welcome!
(Activity Coordinator: Priscilla C)

Healthy Living Group:  How often do you take time each day for YOU?  …Time to do simple things that instantly lower your stress levels, improve your wellness, and maybe even help you sleep better…a relaxing five-minute deep-breathing break, a brief time-out to laugh your stress away, a quick exercise routine to re-energize.  So… How do we go from “healthy wanting” to “healthy doing?”  Join the Cary Newcomers’ Healthy Living Group and learn Yoga breathing and Tai Chi/Qigong techniques (both are powerful for healing, as well as relaxing), laughter exercises (great for the abs!), meditation, and more (we’ll also share healthy cooking tips and potluck meals.) Getting started with new healthy habits is always easier—and more fun-- with the support of a group.  (Activity Coordinator:  Marianne C)

International Group:
Imagine getting to know people from around the world.  The Cary area draws a rich diversity of residents and CNC is fortunate to have an array of international backgrounds represented.  Open to everyone with special emphasis on those who have lived outside the US, participants usually meet in members' homes on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11:30am to share food, beverages and traditions from around the world.
(Activity Coordinators:  Rajani R and Lea O)

Koffee Klatch
: Come join us for coffee and conversation as we get to know each other over light refreshments.  With no program, it‘s your chance to mingle and meet people with common interests.  No need to bring food…Just bring your smile!!!  We usually meet at 10am on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at a member's home.
(Activity Coordinators: Jean B and Barbara C)

Learn and Play Golf: For those interested in learning how to play golf, join us as we learn the mechanics of the game as well as basic rules and etiquette.  Lessons will be held at a local golf course; each participant will be responsible for all fees associated with the lessons.
(Activity Coordinator:  Bobbie DeS)

Lunch Bunch
:
Meet fellow newcomers for lunch at a restaurant in the Cary area.  This group meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 11:30am.
(Activity Coordinators: Alice D and Pat S)

Mah-Jongg: This is an ancient Chinese game played with domino-type tiles with 3 suits: dots, bams, and craks.  The group meets every Thursday at the Macaroni Grill (a local restaurant) for lunch at 11:45am and plays there from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.  Players do not have to join the luncheon - just show up at 1 PM.  Players do not have to come every week - a weekly email asks who can make it.  Experienced players are welcome, and new players can participate in a training session before joining.  Please contact the Activity Coordinator with any questions or to schedule a training session.
(Activity Coordinator: Cecelia D)

Mexican Train Dominoes: This fun and easy-to-learn tile game is catching on fast in the Cary area!  Join in and learn!  Several groups have formed; dates and times vary.
