 A Note from our President…

March in North Carolina brings the promise of Spring with flowering plants, warmer temperatures and even shorts on some hardy souls.  And Cary Newcomers Club is getting in on Spring Fever with several new activities this month!  Check out the fun - and tasty - Game Day on March 8 organized by the Charity Committee where you can play games to your hearts content, enjoy lunch with CNC friends, new and old, and support our charity all in one day.  Ever wondered if you have a good  poker face?  Or how about if you are lucky with dice?  Come try your hand at a new game or two and check out the Silent Auction for some Easter gift-giving ideas!

Check out page 4 of the newsletter for another new offering.  Cecelia  D. has volunteered to serve as Community Connections coordinator.  This group will offer members a regular chance to participate in volunteer opportunities in our community while strengthening friendships within the membership -- a “Win, Win” for everyone involved!

My hip replacement surgery was a success and I am on my way to a full recovery.  I look forward to seeing many of you at a CNC function soon!  Happy Spring!

Upcoming Events

New Activity:

Community Connections Event:  Saturday, March 17, 2:30 - 7:00 pm- UNC TV.

This is a new CNC ad hoc committee which focuses on coordinating opportunities for Club members to volunteer, either in groups or individually, for local charitable organizations.  A group is currently forming to establish direction for this worthy endeavor, and we’re looking for others to join for an organizational meeting… to be announced shortly.

As we look to get started, there is one fun opportunity to help UNC TV coming up.  As a group, we can help with answering the phones for their next Festival to raise money for this public television we probably all watch.  Please let Cecelia know right away if you can join her on Saturday, March 17th, for a 2:30 PM to 7 PM shift.  We can car pool and work together.  That's soon so please put it on your calendar and join the group.
Activity Coordinator:  Cecelia D.

Sightseekers for March:  Sightseekers will visit the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University in Durham.  Since this is an outdoor excursion, please note the rain date.  The gardens are known for landscape design as well as the quality of the horticulture.  For lunch, we plan to go to Parizade Restaurant with Mediterranean-inspired culinary creations; entrees range from $5 – $12.  See menus on their website.

Carpoolers meet at 9am in the Harris Teeter parking lot at High House Crossing in NW Cary.  If you prefer to drive, visitor parking is available for $1 per half-hour.  The parking pay stations do not give change so please plan accordingly.  If you choose to drive, please look for us near the Visitor Center by 10am.

SUPPORT OF OUR CHARITY:

Don't Forget!

In support of this year's charity, please keep bringing donations to our General Meetings for Fill the Footlockers!  Remember, everything must be individual or sample sizes (Donation suggestions at www.militarymissionsinaction.org.)

Thanks once more for your generous donations!

THE PUSH IS ON!!  The morning of Friday, May 4 we will have our MMIA Packing Party.  We still have March and April to make sure we have a BUNCH of stuff to pack, so remember MMIA when you're running errands!

Meanwhile make plans for Game Day on Thursday, March 8 from 10 am to 3 pm at IHOP.  Bring friends you already like to play a game with or come to make new friends!  Shop at the Silent Auction and the Swap Table.  Enjoy lunch.  Have a great day!  Do you have something you can donate for the Auction, or businesses you can ask for a donation?  We have donation receipts with MMIA's tax number on them, as well as an introductory letter to show that you are soliciting contributions for CNC and our charity.  Just ask at the Charity table at the February General Meeting, and thanks for your time and help with this.  Game Day tickets will be on sale at the February and March General Meetings.

A very SPECIAL thanks to Nancy S and the volunteers who wrapped gifts at Barnes and Noble in December - we earned $172 in donations for our charity!

Write a letter or note to someone deployed overseas.  You can bring your letter to a General Meeting or write one while you're there.

As always, ...

.... on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, new and prospective members are encouraged to attend a Chat-A-Wyle, a small-group gathering where you can learn more about the Club and get to meet some of our members.  Contact Lucinda B or check our newsletter for details.
